I had the chance to sit down and talk to Mokatte, the jungler for
Meet Your Makers.
Hey Mokatte, how are you doing today?
"Yo man, I'm fine - we're all in good mood last days as everything goes ok for us."
Why don't you tell me a little about yourself and the members of MYM?
"Okay lets go! Makler, very experienced AD carry. Most versatile and flexible player. He will play always ADs that we want in our team comps, he never goes like "I wont play that gay champ" style. Kubon is our top laner, hes been playing top like... since always! He has great understanding of his lane mechanic and he will use every single detail there, against his opponents. Czaru is a beast ap carry, talented as hell. The time he needs to master champions is incredibly low, that’s what makes him scary in every meta stage. Libik supports not only Makler, but the whole team! He has best attitude, never gives up and throwing a lot of ideas to surprise our opponents. He has great feeling of the game. Finally I'm jungler and trying to make all those personalities work together. If there is undecided situations in game, I'm usually responsible to call what we go for. While jungling, playing mostly tank-supportive champs, because bruiser ones like Nocturne are simply too weak at this stage."
How did you guys decide on roles?
"We formed a team over 600 days ago, roles back then weren’t that important. Since season 2 we specialized with champs that we preferred. In the beginning Czaru was usually the one jungling, and I was playing at mid. Later on we figured that Czaru feels more comfortable as AP carry and that change gave us better results so we stick to it."
So MYM is a pretty old eSports team. How/When did they recruit the LoL team?
"MYM came into League quite early but they were not so happy with their team not qualifying for bigger events. At this time, we managed to take second place at World Cyber Games 2011 while being without any organization. After WCG we got some offers, but playing under MYM brand was beyond anything else. We didn’t need much time to decide. MYM wanted good team, and we as team wanted professional and safe organization - both sides came to fast agreement and now we are part of MYM for 8 months now."
You guys just qualified for IEM Singapore. How's that feel?
"Since the beginning our and organizations goal was to qualify for largest offline events. That was always priority number one so getting success in that matter feels like we reaching our goal. We put a lot of effort to constantly improve and then it all comes to one, qualification day. Feels really good when you see all that work paying off by qualifying for such big events."
So you guys actually lost your first game of the Qualifiers to KIEDYS MIALEM TEAM and then fight your way through the whole loser bracket to end up playing them again and winning. What was different about the second match?
"Coming to losers bracket finals wasn’t stressful for us. We knew that we have a lot of enemies to take down but we still felt confident about our performance. First game of the qualifier was going according to our plan, then one bad baron attempt knocked us out. We realized what we did wrong and made sure to not repeat same mistake during long way up to LB finals. The second time we met KMT we were aware of their good and bad strats so we just had to make sure to use that data properly. In addition we were on winning spree, and they just lost 2 games to Curse so we were calmed, and they were rather sad - that helped us aswell."
How seriously do you guys take League? i.e scrims, scouting other teams, etc.? Do you plan to go full-time Season 3?
"3 of us already went full time into League of Legends. The other 2 have to finish their schools. Fortunately they need only 1 year more, so in 1 year we will be even stronger and more focused into League. At this point we're taking it seriously, but on the other hand 2 of us got to make sure they can finish their school with positive results - and that's also very important. We try to scrim every day, and talk a lot to realize what we need to improve on. On the other hand if we have a day that is free off any serious tournaments and someone feels like taking the day off we are always fine with it as we believe that you cannot enjoy LoL if you sacrifice everything else just to keep playing."
Are you worried about any of the the other teams in this this tournament? Who do you think will be your biggest competitors?
"I think that only European qualifiers took place so far so I cannot say much about our opponents."
Alright Mokatte, good talking to you man, thanks for the interview!
"No problem man! I'd like also give shoutouts to my beloved polish League of Legends community - leagueoflegends.pl and I'd like to thank our sponsors, Razer and Western Digital, for making eSports happens!"
